A serious chess companion
for serious players.
Fianchetto combines the raw power of Stockfish with the human insight of Maia — and the aggressive, attacking eye of Reckless — to help you understand every move, natively on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All analysis runs on‑device.
Ruy Lopez · After 4…Nf6 · Inkwell piece set
Three independent analytical minds — each seeing the same position differently. Stockfish, Maia, Reckless
The strongest open-source chess engine in the world, running locally. Find every tactic, refutation, and resource your opponents might find — before they do.
Trained on millions of human games, Maia predicts what real players would play at your Elo level — not just the computer-optimal move. Learn natural, human chess rather than engine lines nobody plays.
An attacking engine tuned for sharp, sacrificial play. Reckless surfaces the bold, tactical lines Stockfish tends to play around — and cross-checks Stockfish so you see exactly where the two disagree: the moments most worth a closer look.
Fianchetto is built for the player who wants to understand the game — not just play it. Every feature is designed around the same premise: what does a serious student actually need?
Visualize the flow of every game with per-move tooltips, an evaluation bar, and engine recommendations rendered as board arrows.
Automatically generate drills from your own mistakes. Practice finding the better move at every inaccuracy, mistake, and blunder you played.
Personalized puzzles extracted from positions you've actually faced. Spaced repetition resurfaces weak spots and fades out patterns you've mastered.
Build separate repertoires for White and Black with automatic gap analysis. Drill your lines with spaced repetition and export the whole tree as PGN.
ECO codes and named continuations built in, plus Lichess community and Masters databases. A personal opening book grows from your imported games with win/draw/loss stats.
Import 25,000+ games in the background without freezing the UI. Pulls directly from Chess.com and Lichess by username, with multi-encoding support for any PGN file.
Challenge Stockfish, Maia, or Reckless with time controls, play over-the-board with a built-in clock, or use the standalone chess clock. Square Off Pro, Chessnut, ChessUp 2, and Millennium board support over Bluetooth.
Your game library syncs across your Apple devices via your private CloudKit container — start analysis on Mac, pick it up on iPad or iPhone.
Built entirely in Swift and SwiftUI — no web views, no Electron. Adaptive layouts for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with voice move input, keyboard shortcuts, and VoiceOver throughout. The Android port compiles the same native Swift core.
Import your entire game library from any source. 25,000+ games in the background, without freezing the UI. Multi-encoding support for any archive you carry.
Import all your games directly by username — no export required. Your full history, without ceremony.
Pull your full game history by username, or share a Lichess game link straight into the app. Free APIs power opening explorer and tablebase too.
Drop in any PGN file. Supports UTF-8, Latin-1, and Windows-1252 encodings — whatever archive you carry.
Fianchetto is built offline-first. Stockfish, Maia, and Reckless run entirely on your device — no server, no account, no subscription.
Stockfish, Maia, and Reckless run entirely on your device. Your games, your analysis, your hardware. No cloud dependency — not even optionally for the engines.
Read the full privacy policy →Fianchetto is built as a native app for Apple platforms, with an Android version under active development at broad feature parity — the three engines, consensus annotation, repertoire, tactics, endgame, opening explorer, stats, voice move input, and the Square Off Pro, Chessnut, ChessUp 2, and Millennium boards all work on Android too.
A few things stay Apple-only today: iCloud sync (Android uses file backups instead), Game Center online play, repertoire PDF export, and the macOS auxiliary windows / iPad multitasking layouts.
Windows and Linux are earlier work. The engines already build and run natively on both — Stockfish and Reckless compile from source there rather than shipping as Apple frameworks — and the desktop app is being brought up on top of that.
The app is in pre-release development and not yet on the App Store or Google Play.
